After seven long days in Collier County, a convoy of police officers from across the Bay area made their way home.

  • "Tampa Strong Platoon" consisted of 55 officers
  • Platoon went to help residents near area of Irma's landfall
  • Officers came from Tampa PD, Tampa Airport PD, USF PD

They were tired, sweaty, but happy knowing that they had made a difference.

"The chief called and asked me to go down there and be a part of the squad, and to pick a team and go down there, I felt very honored," said Tampa Police Sergeant Danny Rhodes.

With just a couple of hours notice, a team of 55 officers dubbed the "Tampa Strong Platoon" packed up and answered the call of duty.

Working right in the heart of Irma's destruction, they did everything from traffic control to comforting those who lost everything.

"It was very heartwarming to know that just bringing them simple, everyday items made their entire day." said Officer Diane Lopes.

The officers were from the Tampa Police Department, Tampa International Airport Police, and the University of South Florida Police.
