A man with local ties has been found dead in Kansas City, eight months after he went missing.

Police found Randy Potter's decomposing body at Kansas City International Airport.

Officers were alerted to a car emitting a bad smell in a parking lot, where they made the discovery.

Melissa Alderman said she left her Brooksville home to go help find her uncle. They searched everywhere, including the airport at the time.

"We actually went to the Kansas City International Airport and handed out flyers," Alderman said. "We spoke to parking authorities and spoke to the airport police."

Potter's family says authorities dropped the ball. They said it shouldn't have taken eight months to find his body.

Police say Potter took his own life.
