A 54-year-old man was hit and killed by a train Tuesday night in Lakeland.

The Lakeland Police Department responded to the CSX railroad tracks in the 800 block of Kathleen Road around 7 p.m. in reference to a subject that had been hit by a train. 

Police said the train was traveling northbound when the engineer and conductor observed the subject lying in the middle of the west most track. According to the report, the train was unable to stop in time and the victim went underneath the train and suffered fatal injuries. 

Police said the train was traveling 30 mph at the time. 

The victim was identified as Terrence G. Hall, 54, of Lakeland. Police said his next-of-kin in Winter Haven was notified and they believed that he was homeless at the time.
