The Polk County Sheriff's Office is asking for donations to help a deputy, his wife and their foster children, who lost everything during Hurricane Irma.

  • Polk Sheriff's Office: Deputy, family lost everything during Irma
  • Deputy, his wife, foster children live in Fort Meade
  • Family needs clothes and shoes, Sheriff's Office says

"In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, we received many FB private messages asking us where to donate for Hurricane Irma victims. We have directed many of you to the county Citizen Info line. Due to your ongoing overwhelming generosity and desire to help others, we thought we'd also let you know that we have some agency members who were also hit hard - and some who lost everything," the Sheriff's Office wrote on its Facebook page.

The Sheriff's Office said the deputy and his wife are foster parents, and the family of seven lost their home in Fort Meade and everything in it.

The family is in need of clothing and anyone who would like to donate can drop items off at the Fort Meade substation at 15 Northwest 1st Street in Fort Meade, or the Southwest District substation at 4120 U.S. Highway 98 South in Lakeland — and to let the agency members know the items are for the Fort Meade deputy.

"He's very humble, and is not asking us to post this, so out of respect for him we are not posting his name. Like all of our agency members, he continues to go to work every day, serving and protecting the people of Polk County. We appreciate your support of us and of each other. We really do live in the greatest county in the nation. Be safe, everyone."
