A group of Pasco County high school students is doing its part to help when it comes to documenting any potential damage from Hurricane Irma.

It's something these students have been preparing for with their drones and state of the art mobile command center.

"We're surveying for pre-damage and then we're going to come back after the storm and see the post damage," said student Mantis Bitauska. "And if someone’s stuck we can see them, and we can go help them too.”

Sunlake High School Aeronautics and Robotics students are taking high resolution images for Pasco County Emergency Services that will help if Hurricane Irma causes damage and FEMA needs proof.

"Currently what we're doing is we're trying to look at this lake and see things like bridges and any other points we think flooding might affect," said student Tristan Warder.

The students are hitting a few areas in Zephyrhills and wherever else the county would like them to go.

"It's really impressive that we are able to do this now days, because previously we would have had people in helicopters just making written observations for these types of things," said Warder.

This will be the first time the students have used the mobile command center for public service.

"I'm glad to be here filming and doing something to help at the least," Bitauska said.

Pasco schools hopes this can become a regular thing for the students so they can be of help during times of emergency.
