Cold weather shelters remain open across the Bay area.

Here is a county-by-county list of cold weather shelters opening in the Bay area: 

Pinellas County

The Pinellas County cold night shelters for the homeless will be open on the following dates: Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018. 

The shelters open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. (Peace Memorial opens at 5 p.m.), accept guests all night long, and close the following morning at approximately 6 a.m.  Shelter guests are provided a hot evening meal, a warm, safe place to spend the night, and breakfast the following morning.

As extremely cold air continues to move through our area, Pasco County is opening Cold Weather Shelters for the next five (5) nights - Tuesday, January 2, 2018 through Saturday, January 6, 2018 - for anyone needing a warm place to spend the night.

All cold weather shelters are also accepting donations, such as hats, gloves, scarves, socks, blankets, disinfectant wipes and spray, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, disposable cups, coffee, creamer, paper plates, papter towels, plastic utensils, and sugar. 
 
The lower-than-normal temperatures combined with strong winds could produce dangerous wind chills. Residents who must be outside overnight or during the early morning hours are encouraged to dress in several warm layers, and limit skin exposure to the wind.
 

Polk County

 
With temperatures expected to drop into the 30s with a wind chill in the 20s tonight, Citrus Connection will provide transportation options for those who will be seeking refuge from the frigid temperatures at the shelters in Lakeland.

Citrus Connection will provide free transportation on the final runs of the day on Route 22XL from Bartow to the Lakeland Terminal (leaving Polk County Courthouse at 5:12 p.m.), Route 12 from the Winter Haven Terminal to the Lakeland Terminal (leaving Winter Haven at 6:15 p.m.) and Route 47 from Duff Road to the Salvation Army of West Polk in Lakeland (departing Northside Village at 6:38 p.m.).

A single one-way pass will be provided as well to assist those with a return trip aboard the buses tomorrow.

The Talbot House at 814 N. Kentucky Ave. and Lighthouse Ministries at 215 E. Magnolia St. in Lakeland are accepting those who need to shelter themselves from the arctic blast of winter weather. The Salvation Army of West Polk is preparing to assist as well.

Citrus County

Due to the freezing temperatures, The Salvation Army’s Cold Night Shelter will be OPEN tonight, Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

The forecast indicates the Shelter will likely be open every night this week.  There will be a determination and announcement made on a daily basis. Shelter is open 7pm to 7am and is located 712 S. School Avenue, Lecanto, FL  34461.

Someone seeking cold weather shelter can go to any Citrus County Transit Bus Stop at the last pickup time, and the driver will drop off the person at The Salvation Army at no cost. The person will be picked up at The Salvation Army the following morning and taken back to the same area.

Manatee County 

Salvation Army shelter, located at 1204 14th Street W in Bradenton. Opens each night necessary at 6 pm.
