The Citrus County Animal Shelter has temporarily been closed.

  • Citrus County Animal Shelter temporarily closed
  • Located at 4030 South Airport Road in Inverness
  • Citrus Animal Services

Animal Services announced Tuesday the shelter will be closed until further notice. The closure is due to an unknown severe upper respiratory illness in the animals.

The shelter medical staff and administration have been working directly with veterinarians from the University of Florida who specialize in treating illnesses in shelters.

Samples were immediately collected and sent to the lab for testing, but results have not yet been received.

Currently, all animals in the shelter are receiving medical care.

Shelter officials said as the situation develops, administrators will make a determination on reopening the facility.
