A 60-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after he crashed into a vehicle and a tree due to a medical episode, police said.

  • Man suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing twice
  • Jessie Myrick, 60, suffered a medical episode, hit vehicle & tree
  • Myrick transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Milwaukee Avenue and James Street in Dunedin.

Officials said a Largo Police Officer was conducting a follow-up at Mease Dunedin Hospital when he spotted a Dodge Nitro hit an unoccupied 2012 GMC Arcadia parked on Milwaukee Avenue.

According to police, the Dodge Nitro did not stop after the collision and continued driving southbound on Milwaukee Avenue. Officials said the police officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, but it continued southbound toward the intersection of James Street, where the driver lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway, and struck a tree.

The collision caused the vehicle to rollover, trapping the driver, Jessie Myrick, 60, inside.

Paramedics were able to extricate Myrick from the vehicle and he was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for life-threatening injuries.

Officials said Myrick showed no signs of impairment, but that they believe he suffered a medical episode that caused his erratic driving and both crashes.

The crash remains under investigation.
