  • Motorcyclist injured in crash after fleeing from deputy
  • Michael Brown was speeding down U.S. 19 & State Road 590
  • Brown crashed into a vehicle pulling out of a shopping center

A deputy spotted Michael Brown, 21, driving a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed on U.S. Highway 19 North, near Drew Street in Clearwater Friday afternoon. The deputy said Brown was speeding and driving recklessly as he weaved in and out of traffic.

According to the report, the deputy attempted to pull over Brown as he turned eastbound on State Road 590 and Brown fled from the deputy.

The deputy didn't pursue Brown and lost sight of the motorcycle, the report stated.

Brown continued to speed past vehicles on State Road 590 and ended up crashing into a Subaru Outback that was attempting to pull out of a shopping center near McMullen Booth Road.

Officials said the driver of the Subaru, Douglas Deserre, 60, saw Brown speeding towards him and stopped his vehicle in the roadway to back up and avoid a collision; however, Brown lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the driver side of the Subaru.

Brown was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deserre was not injured in the crash.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash, but that impairment does not appear to be a factor.

Criminal charges are pending for Brown, the report stated.
