A Tampa native and former local television reporter was among the 22 people killed last weekend at an Afghanistan hotel.

  • Attack happened at Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul
  • Glenn Selig formerly reported for FOX 13 News
  • Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack

Selig Multimedia confirmed that Glenn Selig died in the attack. He was employed as a crisis manager and formerly reported for FOX 13 News.

He was one of multiple Americans killed during a Taliban assault on the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul.

His company released this statement:

Unfortunately, we have received confirmation Glenn Selig was killed during the attack on the Intercontinental Hotel. Glenn was a tireless professional, loyal friend and pillar of the community, but most importantly he was a loving husband and wonderful father. The loss for his family and friends cannot be measured nor conveyed strongly enough, but we thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have received.

Moving forward we kindly request privacy and compassion as we process this terrible situation.

Glenn was in Kabul on a potential success story involving Afghanistan and its steps to battle extremism. The focus was highlighting the country’s new president and constructing a democracy forum event for Afghani women.

The Sunday attack pinned security forces down for more than 13 hours before the last attacker was killed.

The heavily-guarded luxury hotel is popular among foreigners and Afghan officials.

The Taliban claimed the attack, which began around 9 p.m. Saturday, saying five gunmen armed with suicide vests targeted foreigners and Afghan officials.

During a weekend press conference, Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said that early investigations show that six insurgents entered the hotel from the northern side and stormed its kitchen. Two attackers were killed by Special Forces on the 6th floor of the hotel.

Selig won awards as an investigative reporter for FOX 13. FOX 13's vice president of news, John Hoffman, issued the following statement regarding Selig's death:

Our deepest sympathies go out to the Selig family. Fox 13 staff members who worked with Glenn remember him as a diligent and hardworking reporter.
