Amanda Charland was startled awake inside her of Tuscany Lake Apartment early Saturday morning to the sound of her sister's panicked voice.

  • Bullet flies through woman's window
  • Woman and other inside the apartment got to the ground
  • Manatee County deputies looking for suspects

"I get woken up from my sister just yanking me on the ground, yelling 'I heard gunshots! where's your phone,'" she recalled.

They quickly called 911 and pulled their children low to the ground until the chaos subsided. Amanda said her sister told dispatchers she heard five or six shots fired in a row, very close to their apartment.

"I was confused! Just scared, nervous, didn't know what to do, just wanted to make sure the kids were OK," Amanda said.

One of the bullets traveled far across the complex and into a third-floor apartment. It smashed a sliding glass door before going through a couch and lodging in a living room kneewall.

A 26-year-old woman and a baby were inside at the time. They were not injured.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office confirms that there's no video surveillance of the incident and they're working to find out how many people were involved.

If you have any information you're asked to contact MCSO.
