Protesters took to the streets this weekend in Manatee County to speak out against a recent fatal deputy-involved shooting.

About 20 protesters marched and picketed on Saturday. The group marched from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office headquarters near DeSoto Square Mall and walked east to South Tamiami Trail and U.S. 301.

This protest was second since the Jan. 23 shooting of Corey Mobley.

Mobley, 38, was shot after deputies responded to a disturbance at a gas station in the 3000 block of Cortez Road West in Bradenton. As Mobley and his estranged wife were meeting to exchange children, the situation apparently became heated.

Cell phone video showed Mobley's son trying to pull his dad off his mom.

When deputies arrived, Mobley took off, heading to nearby home. Deputies followed him to the residence and witnesses said Mobley approached Deputy Patrick Drymon, threatened him, shouted that he had a gun, and reached into his pocket.

That's when Deputy Drymon fired multiple shots at Mobley.

Mobley was taken to Sarasota Memorial hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No gun was found on Mobley so it remains unclear why he would have threatened deputies that way.

Meanwhile, protesters said they are not buying the official story and plan another march later this week. Protesters are demanding an independent review board investigate the shooting.
