A woman suffered burns early Wednesday while escaping a house fire in New Port Richey.

According to Pasco County Fire Rescue, flames broke out just after 2 a.m. at a home at 6973 Alken Circle. 

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke pouring from the home. The situation was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire once crews assessed the fire. 

Two women managed to escape the house unharmed. 

The third woman was assisted out of the house by firefighters and transported to the burn unit of an area hospital. The extent of her injuries have not been released. 

The fire was quickly brought under control. 

The fire is under investigation.
