A 22-year-old Winter Haven man was arrested and charged Saturday night in the death of a woman who lived with him.

Deandre Coffer is accused of killing Kiara Butler, 32, after a disagreement. 

The incident happened around 9:10 p.m. Saturday at their home on Summer View Drive. 

Coffer told deputies that Butler was reading a "voodoo" book to his son, and did not agree with her decision. He told deputies that he asked his on to leave the room, and Butler and Coffer began fighting, officials said. He then choked and punched Butler, causing her to become unconscious. 

Officials said Coffer then called 911 to report the incident and walked to a neighbor's home with their two children and waited for deputies to arrive. He also told deputies that he smoked marijuana prior to the incident. 

Coffer was charged with one count 2nd-degree murder. Deputies said Coffer has a previous criminal history, including charges of shoplifting, possession of marijuana, and driving while license suspended. 

Deputies did not release the nature of their relationship.
