Girls join Cub Scouts for first time in history

This week marked 108 years since the founding of the Boy Scouts of America, and the world has changed a lot since 1910 -- including the new recruits.

Four girls in Independence, Missouri joined their local Cub Scouts this week.

This is the first time in the scouts' entire history that girls could ever join the organization.

Tracy Wicks watched her now 20-year-old son and 19-year-old son become scouts -- and now, she's excited her daughter is the next one in uniform.

"I just want her to have the opportunity to do the different things she saw her older brothers doing," Wicks said.

The four girls are in the Cub Scouts, which is 1st through 5th grade. In the future they could eventually join the Boy Scouts, which could take place as early as 2019.
