If a Twitter exchange between Marvel Studios and film star Robert Downey Jr. is to be believed, fans around the world will get to see the latest "Avengers" adventure one week earlier.

  • New 'Avengers: Infinity War' release date 'leaked'
  • Marvel, Downey Jr. Twitter accounts exchange jabs
  • New date moves up release date by 1 week

Marvel Studios "officially" moved the release date of "Avengers: Infinity War" from May 4 to April 27 on Thursday following a thread of messages between the studio's official Twitter account and that of Downey Jr., who for the past 10 years has played Tony Stark/Iron Man in the studio's projects.

"Avengers: Infinity War" brings together the titular heroes plus a host of other Marvel heroes who have appeared in Marvel Studios films since 2008 as they battle intergalactic tyrant Thanos, played by Josh Brolin.

Marvel Studios and its parent company, the Walt Disney Company, have issued no further "official" comment.
