Authorities in Pinellas County are investigating a morning crash that involved a deputy and said an arrest has been made in the case.

  • Maurice Jones, 27, faces multiple charges
  • Lt. Kenneth Euler, Jr., treated for non-life-threatening injuries
  • Crash happened Thursday morning in St. Petersburg

It happened about 2:20 a.m. Thursday at 16th Street South and 14th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

The Sheriff's Office said a Violent Crimes Task Force deputy observed a suspicious vehicle and pulled behind it.

The suspect vehicle then sped away and ran several stop signs, authorities said.

The deputy notified others and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Lt. Kenneth Euler, Jr., was driving an unmarked Chevrolet, and authorities said the suspect vehicle crashed into the driver's side of Euler's vehicle.

The suspect, 27-year-old Maurice Jones, fled on foot but was later captured. He was treated at a local hospital, then taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving and resisting.

Euler was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
