A 17-year-old Armwood High School student was arrested on March 22 after he threatened to bring a firearm to school use it following a verbal altercation with a teacher.

Officials said the student, who we are not identifying in accordance with our crime guidelines, made the statement during his second period reading class. According to witnesses, he said, "I'm going to bring the strap tomorrow and let it off."

A "strap" is a slang term for a firearm.

Deputies said the student had been investigated on two separate occasions for issuing similar statements. In each instance, the student's threats proved to be unfounded.

The student was charged with false report concerning planting a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner, a felony. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail without incident.
