St. Petersburg Police say they are searching for a cop impersonator who targeted a local woman.

  • Victim wished not to be named
  • Police released digital composite sketch March 26

On Monday officials released a digital composite image of the suspect, which was created from the description provided to them by the victim.

Police say it happened on Thursday around 10:30 p.m. near 5th Avenue S. and 34th St. in St Petersburg.

The victim, who spoke to Spectrum Bay News 9 but didn't want to be identified, says the fake officer was dressed in a full uniform complete with a badge and was driving a white sedan.

She says he pulled her over and approached the car before asking for her ID. From there, he asked her to exit the car and completed a pat down, where she says he touched her inappropriately.

If you're driving alone and not sure if the officer pulling you over is real, police say to call 911 and report your location. Dispatch can then confirm the police officer behind you is real.

If you have any information about the suspect or this incident, St. Petersburg Police ask that you call (727) 893-7780.
