  • Volunteers, "Fairy Godmothers" collect used and new prom dresses
  • The dresses are provided free of charges

It’s called the Cinderella Project.

Volunteers, called “Fairy Godmothers” and lead by Julie Rockwell, collect used and new prom dresses all year. They also collect shoes and accessories.

Starting this week, they’ll be going to several Pasco schools to get those dresses a new owner.

Students will have the chance to get a dress free of charge.

Each year, hundreds of students get a dress. Organizers have done this for 15 years in Pasco.

The organizers say going to prom is a huge expense and they want all girls to be able to go.

“The girls love the dresses,” Rockwell said. “The mothers cry, and they hug you and say you’re doing such a great thing. And even if we’re hot, tired, and have been lugging carts and shoes, a few smiles really make it worth it.”

The Cinderella Project will be at Fivay High School on Monday and Tuesday. They’ll be at Gulf High on Wednesday and Thurs.

Next week, they’ll be at Wesley Chapel High on Monday and Tuesday.
