The Manatee County Sheriff's Office announced late Tuesday that deputies had made an arrest in connection with the death of a 50-year-old Bradenton woman whose body was found on fire on April 2.

Detectives arrested Dakota Jibson, 23, of Bradenton in connection with the death of Veronica Polite. A spokesman for the agency said Jibson was developed as a suspect following the discovery of Polite's body on April 2 and he was formally charged with murder on April 3.

According to officials, Jibson is a convicted felon who has already served two years in prison.

Jibson was released from prison in July 2015 after serving two years on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, burglary and felon in possession of a firearm.

Polite's body was found in a wooded area off 18th Street East around 1 a.m. on April 2. Detectives said she was already deceased when deputies and EMS/Fire arrived at the scene.

Polite was last seen near her home around midnight. According to her husband, she was legally blind, and he believed she never would have gone off alone.

"I just can't think of who would take her away from the house like that," said husband Willie Polite. "You know she was blind and stuff, you know."

Jibson will appear before a Manatee County judge Wednesday. Given the nature of the crime and his prior criminal record, he likely will not be granted bond.
