The odd noises a man heard in the back of his car turned out to be a kitten in an axle tube.

Joseph Stanson says the man brought his Mercury Montego to Gatto's Tire and Auto Service in Palm Bay Friday and asked Stanson to figure out what was wrong.

When Stanson, who is the service manager, put the car up on the alignment machine and discovered the small kitten inside the axle tube. Stanson was able to slowly pull the cat out of the tube. The video of the kitten's rescue is now on YouTube.

"He had grease and oil and a couple of hitchhikers in his hair, but other than that he was great," Stanson said.

Stanson said he never dealt with a cat inside a car before -- although he did have a snake in a dashboard last week.

The owner of the car was interested in adopting the kitten, but Stanson asked to take him home. His daughter's birthday is next week.

The cat also already has a name. He is Lucky Gatto.
