Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing Trayvon Martin in February, though he claims he acted in self-defense, saying 17-year-old attacked him.

Attorney Mark O'Mara said his team has now begun its discovery process now that they have delivered their documents to prosecutors.

Zimmerman's legal team said that there are still a number of items that the State has not submitted to them that they feel are relevant to the case.

The defense said they will also be issuing subpoenas for other items including information from Trayvon Martin's social media accounts, reports related to chain of custody to key evidence and other interviews.

Zimmerman's legal team said they will make all release all legal documents related to the case as they become public record.

In the case of Trayvon's school records, they are protected and will not be part of the public record, without appropriate court order.
