A 13-year-old girl taken to All Children's Hospital after being shot in the chest is listed in good condition after having surgery, officials said.

St. Petersburg Police say 13-year-old Danajha Jackson's mother was in the kitchen of their home on Elkcam Boulevard SE when she heard the shot in another area of the home.

The mother told police a 14-year-old cousin who is also a student at Bay Point Middle School, had gotten a handgun and accidentally fired it inside the house.

The mother gathered the children and drove to All Children's Hospital. That's where the cousin disappeared.

Hospital officials said Jackson is in good condition.

Officials said Jackson's cousin has still not been located as yet nor has the gun used in the shooting been found.

It does appear that the shooting was accidental and that the gun went off while he was attempting to clean it in the bathroom, police said.

It is still not clear how he obtained the weapon.
