The man charged with killing a 26-year-old woman in Mascotte, Lake County Monday made his first court appearance Thursday morning and was ordered held without bond on a charge of first-degree murder.

Johnny Lashawn Shipman, 36, was caught in Ocala Wednesday night after the Lake County Sheriff’s Office identified him as a suspect in the death of Kristi Lynne Delaney.

The victim’s mother, Sandra Delaney, said the two had been in a relationship for several years and have a daughter together who police said was home when the murder happened.

Investigators said Shipman was dropped off in Ocala, likely headed for Alabama. They said they believe he killed Delaney in an act of domestic violence.

Police said Delaney was found dead after her mother called 911 on Monday when the victim’s 3-year-old daughter walked a mile down the street and around the corner to her house.
