A day after appearing in court asking for and being denied a request to delay the start of his murder trial, George Zimmerman’s defense team now says it is out of money and unable to properly prepare for trial.

In a post on the Zimmerman Legal Defense Fund Trust website, the trust says it has less than $5,000 in the trust account and more than $20,000 in outstanding bills.

The post goes on to say that “Everyone on the defense team has made sacrifices in our fight to prove George’s innocence. Mr. O’Mara and Mr. West have not been paid a cent for their services; many interns work diligently for no money; some staffers work for far less than they deserve. Meanwhile, the State of Florida has spared no expense in its prosecution of George Zimmerman.”

The trust says in order to give George Zimmerman the defense he deserves they need $120,000 or “at the barest minimum, we need $75,000 to give George a fighting chance.”

Zimmerman is charged second degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last year during a confrontation at a gated community in Sanford.
