The George Zimmerman trial gets underway Monday and there are new details about security and safety procedures that will be in place at the Seminole County Courthouse.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency in charge of security at the courthouse.  On Tuesday they released new details on what they will be doing to keep traffic running smoothly on US 17/92.

The sheriff’s office will be staffing deputies at the intersection of 17/92 and Bush Boulevard throughout the trial, to keep traffic coming in and out of the courthouse running smoothly. Courthouse employees will have to come and go through a back entrance of the courthouse to lessen some of the traffic flow.

The sheriff’s office will be working with agencies like Sanford Police to make sure every part of the courthouse and the area around it is safe. They can’t release every detail of their security plan, but the idea is to keep things running smoothly and efficiently for everyone who has to still conduct business and take care of everyday matters here at the courthouse while the high-profile George Zimmerman trial is going on.

“We know this is a case of high public interest and we know there will be more people, traffic, vehicles so individuals coming to this location should expect to see more deputies as well as additional court personnel that will be helping with screening inside this facility,” said Heather Smith from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

There will be extra security measures in place. One noticeable change is bottled water. People entering the courthouse will not be allowed to bring in bottled water as they have in the past and will have to leave it at the door just like at the airports.
