An on-ramp to southbound Interstate 95 has reopened after a Greyhound bus catches fire Tuesday morning.

It happened just before 11 a.m. Tuesday at the ramp from Wickham Road.

Flames shot out of the engine in the back of the bus. Approximately 20 passengers were on board when the fire broke out.

We're told the driver pulled over and immediately ordered them off the bus.

Some passengers were able to get their luggage, while others were burned in the fire.

Passengers said the driver tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher to no avail.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Brevard County deputies blocked the on ramp to I-95, leaving drivers stuck.

Brevard County Fire Rescue firefighters quickly arrived and started to put out the flames.

Passengers said they heard a loud noise minutes before the bus pulled over.

“It shook the bus,” said Willie Lamar, of Melbourne. “Like dynamite -- like somebody had exploded something. The driver was great. He stayed in control.”

A Space Coast Area Transit bus came to give the passengers some relief from the heat.

A new bus was dispatched to pick the passengers up.
