A candlelight vigil was held on Saturday night in the wake of a tragic shooting that has rocked a Volusia County community.

Early Friday morning, investigators say David Mohney shot all three of his children, killing two of them before turning the gun on himself.

As imagined the whole community is mourning the loss of these young children.

News 13 spoke to many of their friends who told us Savanna was athletic and funny, just like her younger brother David.

Both of whom will be greatly missed.

With candles lit, dozens of those who knew 11-year-old David and 14-year-old Savanna grieved.

Justin King babysat the kids for years, and like so many at the vigil he told us he just can't comprehend what has happened.

According to law enforcement an argument broke out between the mother Cynthia and father David Mohney early Friday morning.

Cynthia then ran to the neighbors house and called 911.

Moments later, investigators say David Mohney shot his three children before turning the gun on himself.

The father and two of the children died. 9-year-old Lauren Mohney survived and at last check is in stable condition.

Now investigators are working to find out why David Mohney pulled the trigger; a question many at the vigil also had on their minds.

"He was the best dad you could ask for. Always took them on camping trips. Just was always with his kids. He played softball with them. And just taking care of them," said Justin King.

Many of the people out here were students at the local schools. School district officials say the schools will have crisis teams at each of the schools on Tuesday when school starts back up.

Court filings show Mohney filed for divorce from his 48-year-old wife, Cynthia, on May 8.

The couple was at odds over his plans to move their children to Rapid City, South Dakota.

Divorce filings said David was a stay-at-home dad who studied chiropractic medicine while his wife worked as a physician's assistant.

He sought a protective injunction earlier this year, saying his wife was drinking heavily and hitting him and the children. It was lifted in June.

Investigators said before David fired the deadly shots, Cynthia ran to a neighbor's house and called 911 for help. She told investigators he threatened her

911: “Do you think he’ll harm the kids?”
Neighbor: “Yeah..."
Wife: "Yes he will, yes."
Neighbor: "Yeah, people under stress do about anything."
