The Florida Department of Health in Lake County is rescinding a rabies alert issued two months ago.

The alert was issued Friday, Aug. 22 after a fox tested positive for the virus.

The following area boundaries were put in place during the 60-day alert:

  • North boundary - Highway 441
  • South boundary - Lakeshore Drive
  • East boundary - Greenway Drive
  • West boundary - David Walker Drive

Although the alert is no longer in effect, residents are asked to avoid contact with any wild or domestic free roaming animals.

If such animals approach your home or yard, call Lake County Animal Services at (352) 343-9668.

Residents should also make sure your pets have current rabies vaccinations.
