The list of airbags being recalled from manufacturer, Takata, continues to grow into one of the largest recalls in automotive history with more than 12 million cars affected.

An airbag deploys to save a life in the event of a violent collision. Now, millions of cars are on a recall list to get their airbags replaced before they deploy and cause serious injury.

But will there be enough replacement airbags to fulfill all the orders?

Larry Perry is the president of Magic Mechanic. He says he fears the manufacturer will go bankrupt trying to replace them all.

Larry says the problem is when the chemicals in the airbag that cause it to inflate, react with the humidity in warmer climates, like the sunshine state.

When the airbag deploys, those chemicals generate a great deal of heat.

In some cases that remain under investigation, pieces of metal have exploded out of the airbag injuring motorists.

The Department of Transportation says it is illegal for the consumer to disable their airbag. If the dealer cannot replace the airbag immediately, then the dealership can disable the airbag for you.

The recall lists include domestic and foreign cars.

Larry says it’s a problem that has no quick solution, with more questions than answers.
