Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist spent Monday campaigning in South Florida.

Crist visited three early voting locations throughout the day, making short stops to speak to small groups of supporters.

With the first weekend of early voting in the books, Crist said he is feeling good about turnout numbers and believes Democrats have the edge.

Crist campaigned solo Monday after teaming up with President Bill Clinton over the weekend. He arrived to a small crowd at an early voting location near Florida International University. Crist said he’s feeling the enthusiasm despite the small turnout.

"A lot of people talked about how there would be a lack of enthusiasm or an enthusiasm gap, but it seems to be the opposite to me," Crist said Monday. "People know what's on the line in this election, and they are turning out to vote."

South Florida is one of the areas Crist will need enthusiasm if he's going to win his old seat back.

Democrat strategist Steve Schale said Crist is doing better in early voting numbers in South Florida than Democrats did in 2010.

Crist on Monday said Gov. Rick Scott is scared and that it shows by how he is spending his own money.

"I think they’re pretty desperate," he said. "He wouldn't be spending that kind of money if he wasn't afraid."

The last week of the campaign is going to be filled with similar events as Crist and Democrats encourage people to get out to the polls before Nov. 4.

"I think things are turning (out) really well," Crist said. "And you don't know who they are voting for. Just because they are an R or a D doesn't mean we're not getting them."
