The first of several packages mailed by the man who shot three people at a Florida State University library was delivered in Texas, a law enforcement official said Friday.

“What we hope is in the package is why he chose to do this,” said Joe Paul, a friend of shooter Myron May, who is waiting on a package.

Paul was told by Tallahassee police not to open the package when it arrives to his home in Alexandria, Virginia.

One of the packages arrived in Texas earlier Friday. The US Postal Inspection Service said letters identified do not pose a threat or contain hazardous items.

Paul said eight of May’s friends received a FaceBook message Saturday, asking for an address. Then they said they received a message just a couple hours before May went to the Strozier Library, that message showed a picture of the package and said it should arrive Friday.

“I really couldn’t believe it, then I put two and two together that he asked for our information, because maybe he was sending us a manifesto, I don’t know what he was sending us,” said Paul.

What’s inside the envelope could shed light as to why he went on the shooting rampage, injuring two students and one faculty member.

We now know who those people are:

  • Elijah Velez
  • Nathan Scott
  • Farhan Ahmed

Police say journals and videos show May was in a state of crisis and feared the government was targeting him.

May had moved to Florida from New Mexico just three weeks prior, where he had worked as a district attorney for the Las Cruces New Mexico district attorney’s office.

We obtained a police report from October 7, which shows May’s ex-girlfriend called police complaining of harassment.

She told them May had recently developed a severe mental disorder and believed he was being followed and targeted by police.

In September, May had called police to his own home, complaining that there was a camera located inside and that he believed he was being watched.

May told police he could constantly hear voices coming through the wall  and that people were watching him.
