Just two days after a shooting at Florida State University, the community gathered Saturday as the Seminoles edged Boston College in an ACC showdown.

The Seminoles needed a last-second field goal to top Boston College, 30-27.

It’s the Seminoles' second-to-last regular season game. FSU will host Florida in the regular season finale Nov. 29.

But for fans inside Doak Campbell Stadium, football wasn't the only thing on their minds. For the most part, fans seemed unfazed by Thursday's tragedy and focused on one thing Saturday afternoon: football, as their No. 3-ranked 'Noles eyed another win as they defend their national championship.

But at the same time, everybody is aware of what occurred a couple of days ago, and they're hoping Saturday's game can do a lot to restore a sense of normalcy.

The game opened with a familiar scene as Renegade, the Florida State mascot, galloped onto the field and Chief Osceola planted a flaming spear at midfield.

Then came the football team.

In Tallahassee, members of the FSU team are celebrities. And in a lot of ways, they're helping the campus turn the page on a tough couple of days.

FSU's new president, John Thrasher, is trying to do the same thing. He had only been on the job for 10 days when Thursday's shooting happened.

Before the National Anthem on Saturday, Thrasher appeared on the jumbotron with a message to the fans: "I'd like to ask all of you to keep the victims of Thursday morning's shooting and their families in your thoughts and prayers."
