Two females, including a 10-year-old, are dead after a head-on collision in Sumter County.

It happened around 6 a.m. Monday on U.S. 301 just south of SW 102nd Road.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a Kia Sedona was traveling northbound on U.S. 301 when 52-year-old Maria Vences, of Lehigh Acres, crossed the center line into the southbound lanes.

The Kia crashed head-on into a Chevy Cavalier. The Cavalier’s driver, 43-year-old Kristie White from Bushnell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vences was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with critical conditions. Her 10-year-old granddaughter Alondra, who was in the backseat, was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa and later died.

The driver's 11-year-old daughter Mia was also transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children with critical injuries.

Charges are pending in this case.
