The Sanford Police Department is helping residents protect themselves from thieves during the holidays.
Police said disposing of empty boxes from large ticket items, such as flat screen televisions, outside your home is a sign to thieves you have expensive items inside.
They have set up three recycling locations for residents to drop off their boxes.
- Walmart -- 1601 Rinehart Road
- Walmart -- 3653 S. Orlando Drive
- City of Sanford lot -- 18th Street and French Avenue
Only cardboard boxes will be taken at these locations, which will be open Monday, Dec. 22 through Tuesday, Dec. 30.
