It looks like "The Interview" will hit the big screen on Christmas Day after all.

Sony has given the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Tx. and the Plaza Atlanta theater in Atlanta, Ga. permission to screen "The Interview."

Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton said Tuesday that Seth Rogen's North Korea farce "will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day." He said Sony also is continuing its efforts to release the film on more platforms and in more theaters.

The two well-known independent theaters announced that they would show the film in tweets Tuesday. The Plaza Atlanta also said they would show the film from Dec. 26 to New Year's Day.

Sony cancelled the Christmas Day release of "The Interview" after threats from hackers prompted all the major theater chains to pull the film from their theaters. Sony has said that it plans to release the film eventually, but have not said exactly how.

The FBI said on Friday that North Korea was behind the cyberattack, though some in the cyberintelligence industry are questioning that.

Locally, The Enzian in Maitland is lobbying Sony for a chance to show "The Interview."

The theater released this statement Tuesday afternoon:

"We are currently waiting to hear from Sony, but our schedule is locked through January 1st. If given the opportunity, we would play it as soon as our schedule permits. We might be able to squeeze in some late shows this weekend if Sony allows, but again, we’re waiting to hear back.
