If it isn't already, soon your house will be filled with piles of wrapping paper and empty boxes. But what should you do with it all?

In Marion County, recycling centers offer single-stream recycling, so all household recyclables can be tossed into the same container — and there's no need to separate items.

Of course, you will need to remove decorations from the tree, ribbons and tape from gift boxes, and clean out those cans and food containers from Christmas Dinner before you recycle at any of Marion County's 18 recycling centers. People living outside of the county can purchase recycling permits.

As for those old electronic items or even burned out holiday lights, they can only be recycled at special events throughout the county in January at the following locations and dates:

  • Jan. 10, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
    Dunnellon Recycling Center
    (4232 S. U.S. Highway 41, Dunnellon)
  • Jan. 17, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
    McPherson Governmental Complex
    (503 SE 25th Ave., Ocala)
  • Jan. 24, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
    Newton Recycling Center
    (1750 NW 100th St., Ocala)
  • Jan. 31, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
    Salt Springs Recycling Center
(13580 NE 203rd Ave. Road, Salt Springs)
