Surfers traded "hang ten" for "ho, ho, ho" in Brevard County on Christmas Eve, as more than 400 people dressed up like jolly old Saint Nick and hopped on surfboards at the end of the Minutemen Causeway for an annual tradition.

Wednesday marked the sixth year of the Surfin' Santas event, which was started by George Trosset.

This year, the city of Cocoa Beach helped sponsor the event.

“I think it’s just going to be something really cool,” said Mayor Dave Netterstrom. “It absolutely going to be the world’s largest Surfin Santa event. And I challenge anybody else out there in the world to try and beat us.”

Thousands of dollars will be raised to help GrindForLife.org, which helps cancer patients.

Proceeds will also benefit the Cocoa Beach Surf Museum.
