When it comes to vacations, Florida is a pretty popular spot. Even at Christmas, you'll find families retreating south to escape the cold.

You won't find snow drifts along the Florida coast, but there's plenty of white sand along the World's Most Famous Beach.

The Hill family, from Washington, D.C., is just fine with that, although they did like those 80-degree temperatures in Daytona Beach earlier in the week.

"It's not even that warm for Florida, but compared with D.C., it's lovely," said Jared Hill.

Hill's daughter, Bryton, agreed.

"I'm used to having snow, not hot weather," she said.

The Hills are originally from Iowa, and they took plenty of opportunities Thursday to send family back home pictures and videos of the beach on Christmas Day. They also squeezed in a trip to Disney World between spending time at the beach.

Of course, for families away from home this time of the year, there's always that No. 1 concern, and it has nothing to do with the weather: Does Santa Claus know you're on vacation?

"Santa was able to find us, so that worked out just fine," Jared said.

It helped that the Hills brought their Christmas tree with them.

Still, for Jared's son, Grady, it was touch-and-go as he went to bed Christmas Eve.

"I kind of thought he was going to come to our house and deliver presents, but he came to the condo and delivered the presents," said Grady.

The Hills were not alone at the beach on Christmas Day. While far from crowds you'd see on Memorial Day or the 4th of July, there were plenty of people taking a stroll along the sand, and even a few kids brave enough to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean.

Volusia County Beach Safety flew the yellow flag Thursday, indicating moderate rip currents, but no water rescues were needed.
