Jury selection continues in Brandon Bradley's first-degree murder trial in Brevard County and is behind schedule, according to Judge Morgan Reinman.

Bradley is accused of shooting and killing Brevard County Deputy Barbara Pill in March 2012 and faces a potential death sentence if convicted of first-degree murder.

So far, 39 potential jurors have been selected for the pool.

One juror was dismissed Monday, saying he didn't want to be responsible for making a decision in a death penalty case. Another was dismissed due to allergies.

Members of the jury pool are still being brought one by one in courtroom, and questioned by the judge, prosecution and public defenders.

One of the questions is what they know about the case, and if they could give an unbiased verdict based on evidence presented at trial.

Reinman: Would you be able to give that presumption of innocence to Mr. Bradley?
Woman: No.
Reinman: You would not be able to follow that instruction?
Woman: No.

That juror was also dismissed.

Another juror examined Monday said she had a brother, who was a former law enforcement officer.

Judge Reinman told the juror there will be some graphic pictures and video of the shooting presented and that someone may not be able to handle.

"Is this something that you think you can do, or you say 'judge, this is not the case I need to be in'," asked Reinman.

"I don't know if I can do it. I keep thinking of my brother being in that position," said the juror.

She too was dismissed.

A third juror, whose brother is suffering from lung cancer and needs to be able to care for him, was dismissed from the jury pool.

The court hopes to have 50 jurors for the final pool.

The jury selection process continues Tuesday with another round of potential jurors.

There was no court Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday last week due to the judge having a prior commitment so jury selection was only held on Thursday and Friday.

The week before on Friday Feb. 28, the jury selection process was halted after a deadly standoff shut down the Brevard County Courthouse.

So far, lawyers have a list of 29 potential jurors as they try to reach a pool of 40 to 50 before selecting the final jury of 12, plus three alternates.

Prosecutors said Bradley shot Deputy Barbara Pill during a traffic stop on March 6, 2012. Investigators said he and girlfriend Andria Kerchner had just stolen items from the Econo Lodge in West Melbourne, and deputies were called to track down the suspects.

Minutes later, Pill made the stop. That's when investigators said Bradley pulled out a gun and shot the deputy outside a neighborhood on John Rodes Boulevard, in Melbourne.

Investigators said Bradley then sped away, later crashing into a water-filled drainage ditch, where he and Kerchner were arrested.

Kerchner accepted a plea deal last month and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. As part of the agreement, she will testify against Bradley in this trial, which is expected to last five weeks.
