Opening statements in the trial of a man accused of murdering Brevard County Sheriff's Deputy Barbara Pill are still days away from beginning as jury selection continues.

Brandon Bradley is accused of shooting and killing Deputy Pill in March 2012 and faces a potential death sentence if convicted of first-degree murder.

So far, 41 potential jurors have been selected for the pool.

In court Tuesday, two dismissed jurors told the court they had already formed opinions about the guilt of Bradley.

One juror who was questioned said they do not believe in the death penalty and the court had no choice but to dismiss that person.

A new jury pool of 53 was brought in Tuesday afternoon as the court is tries to get 50 total and then whittle that down to the 15, 12 jurors and 3 alternates, need for the trial. Of the new pool, 21 were sent home.

Prosecutors said Bradley shot Deputy Barbara Pill during a traffic stop on March 6, 2012. Investigators said he and girlfriend Andria Kerchner had just stolen items from the Econo Lodge in West Melbourne, and deputies were called to track down the suspects.

Minutes later, Pill made the stop. That's when investigators said Bradley pulled out a gun and shot the deputy outside a neighborhood on John Rodes Boulevard, in Melbourne.

Investigators said Bradley then sped away, later crashing into a water-filled drainage ditch, where he and Kerchner were arrested.

Kerchner accepted a plea deal last month and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. As part of the agreement, she will testify against Bradley in this trial, which is expected to last five weeks.
