Florida Fish and Wildlife officials shot a bear that was aggressive toward them in the area where a bear attacked a woman Saturday.

FWC officers said they shot the bear at close range because it came up to them and had no fear of humans.

Three other bears were captured and euthanized, while two more ran away and were left alone.

FWC said they have put up several traps in the area in the hopes of catching more bears.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers said Terri Frana was walking to her garage at her home in the Carisbrooke subdivision Saturday night, near Markham Road and Brackenhurst Place. That's when she saw five bears digging through her garbage bin.

"She continued to proceed down the driveway to look for our two little kids, and one of the bears stood up, knocked her down and started to maul her," said Frank Frana, Terri's husband. "She was able to eventually break away and run back into the house, and she collapsed on the floor."

"The bear actually had my wife's head in its mouth and started to drag her to the woods," Frana added.

After hearing their mother screaming, Frana's two young children came running from where they playing a few houses down the street.

"We went to the driveway, and there were two bears," said Nicholas Frana. "Me and my sister, she was knocking on the front door, and I went to the back porch door, and I went in and I saw my mom on the floor."

The woman was taken to South Seminole Hospital, in Longwood. She was released from the hospital around 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Neighbors told FWC officers that they have recently seen several bears in the neighborhood.

This is the second serious bear attack in Seminole County in the last four months.
