The family of a man who was stung by hundreds of wasps is hoping he will wake from a coma after they remove his breathing tube today.

David Alvarez and his son Jordan were stung more than 700 times after a walk in the woods last week.

Seven-year-old Jordan is out of the hospital, and can't wait to see his father open his eyes.

“I’m gonna tell him that I love him very much because usually we do everything together,” Jordan said.

Jordan and his father were walking their dog near Trout Lake in Seminole County when the attack happened.

“One of us stepped on the nest,” Jordan said.

Seconds later their bodies were covered in wasps, stinging both of them more than 700 times.

“Like little needles and little cuts. And you can see how many got me,” Jordan said of the marks on his body from the attack.

Both were sent to intensive care units at separate hospitals. Even China, the family dog, suffered so many stings that she started to go into liver failure.

But now Jordan and China are back home with family, thankful to be alive, and focusing their love and prayers on David.

“I have a great family," said Jordan's mother, Jennifer Alvarez. "And that’s what family does. We take care of each other.”

David Alvarez will remain in the hospital for some time. The family said the doctors believe he was allergic to yellow jackets.

Jennifer Alvarez said there is concern that Jordan is also allergic. So they have kept some of the yellow jackets from the attack to have tested.

Friends have also set up a page to help raise money for the Alvarez family to pay for medical expenses. So far, the page has raised more than $4,600.
