A Delta IV rocket is ready to carry a pair of military satellites into orbit Wednesday evening, but the high chance of storms on the Space Coast at launch time could keep the mission grounded.

The rocket's targeted launch time is 7:03 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters set the chance of favorable weather at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at launch time at just 30 percent.

The United Launch Alliance's Delta IV rocket is carrying two spacecraft described as military "neighborhood watch" satellites, part of what's known as the Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness program.

According to the Air Force, the satellites are designed to help the military more accurately track objects in orbit above the Equator, while surveilling the area to ensure spaceflight safety.

The Delta IV rocket is also carrying a third, experimental satellite for the Automated Navigation and Guidance Experiment for Local Space — or ANGELS — program. The United Launch Alliance says this satellite "examines techniques for providing a clearer picture of the environment surrounding our nation's vital space assets."
