New information released Friday shows Florida is one of four states receiving the most unaccompanied children caught at the U.S. border.

Florida, along with Texas, New York and California account for 46 percent of the more than 30,000 children who have been released to sponsors this year.

That's according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

Children are placed in shelters and then released to sponsors while they go through deportation proceedings.

Officials say that in many cases, the sponsors are relatives or a friend of the family.
