Many of us know the benefits of a good night's sleep, but aside from making you feel refreshed it can also help your brain's age.

Researchers at Duke Medical School in Singapore found that a lack of sleep for adults over 55 years of age can make their brains age faster.

After running a two-year study on more than 60 adults over 55, they discovered the less each adult slept every night, the faster their brains aged.

"Our findings relate short sleep to a marker of brain aging," said Dr June Lo, the lead author and a Duke-NUS Research Fellow.

So if you want to slow down the aging process experts say try getting at least seven hours of sleep.
