Orange County deputies have filed child neglect charges against a mother who left her toddler inside a hot car Tuesday.

Deputies were called to Timber Creek Pediatrics on Avalon Lake Drive just after 3:30 p.m.

They said the mother, who deputies have yet to identify, brought her 9-year-old child into the clinic and left the 2-month-old girl inside the vehicle. The mother told investigators that she thought the appointment would be quick, and so she left the infant sleeping inside the car.

Approximately an hour later, the mother realized the girl was in the car and rushed her inside. The child had a temperature of 101.6 degrees when she was taken inside the clinic.

The child was discharged from Nemours Children's Hospital Tuesday evening and is "doing well," according to Kristi Gray, public information officer for the Department of Children and Families.

Gray said the child is not currently in protective custody.

"The (Department of Children and Families) continues to gather information and assess the totality of the circumstances that led to the event," Gray said in a statement. "The investigation remains active and ongoing."
