Agents with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office have made one arrest in the shooting of a 12-year-old on Thursday, July 31, in Cocoa.

Deputies responded on Thursday to a call for a shooting, and upon arrival discovered a 12-year-old had been shot in the leg.

Witnesses told police the suspects fled the area in a red Chrysler 300; deputies quickly established a route of travel and located the vehicle.

After detaining and interviewing three suspects, West Precinct General Crimes agents concluded there was probable cause for the arrest of 25-year-old Dontarius Terelle Jones of Cocoa.

Jones has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm on a roadway and aggravated child abuse.

Officials say Jones is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail on a no-bond status.
