Officials say tougher restrictions are on the way for painkillers containing hydrocodone.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says the the new restrictions would cover prescription narcotic drugs like Vicodin and other generic equivalents.

These drugs would be put in the same regulatory class as painkillers such as Oxycontin and Codeine.

That means patients would only have access to a three-month supply of the drug, and would have to see a doctor to get any refills.

Experts say prescription drug overdoses result in more deaths than auto accidents; and the goal is to cut down on incidents like those.
